Yesterday I talked about photos sparking memories of people and places. Many folk know that over the past few years, I've had many an opportunity to hear and photograph the tenor Alfie Boe live in concert. For many of Alfie's fans, a simple shot can cause memories come flooding back - to times when they met him, heard him or indeed were at the same event.
To me my photo of Alfie below brings back memories of that day, 23 April 2011 - my birthday, when I gathered with a fairly new group of friends, who I now hold very dear to me. It was a wonderful sunny hot day for April. We were all gathered in Trafalgar Square to hear live music and had indeed got together to hear Alfie most of all.
We'd heard various songs from him, but just as those few opening bars of 'Bring Him Home' were played, dark clouds covered the sky and the heaven's opened. We went from the high 20's (degrees celsius) to full on storm including thunder and lightening. Somehow it added a sort of spirituality to the whole performance & a memory I will never forget.
My photos have also introduced me to many friends from all over the world. This photo will always remind me of a New Mexican friend who was drawn to the spiritual side of this photo, with the special meaning of the blessed rain.
I merely wanted to share one of the very first photos I took of Alfie Boe with you all today, on this bank holiday, and ask you this - what's your favourite photo of Alfie & what emotions does it hold for you?
